I was looking in SDL_mixer.c and noticed the mix8 array, which looks like a really nice branchless way to mix 2 audio samples together. In the comment above it says "used with permission from ARDI". I tried searching for ARDI to figure out where SDL took this from but couldn't find anything.

So my question is, why did SDL have to request permission to use this method? Is it patented or something? And who is the ARDI that it got permission from?
